Solarize Ossining-Briarcliff is a unique discount buying program that uses a tiered-pricing structure, town-supported education and outreach and one competitively selected installer to dramatically reduce the cost of solar. The more residents sign up for Solarize, the more the cost comes down. The Residential portion of this program ended June 1, 2015.

“The Town of Ossining is so proud to be part of this Coalition that will take the ‘guesswork’ out of ‘solarizing’ for our residents- working together, we can ensure not only great pricing but professional and high-quality workmanship.”
—Supervisor Susanne Donnelly, Town of Ossining

“Solarize Ossining–Briarcliff is a remarkable collaboration of local governments, non-profits, community organizations and industry leaders. We all need to find ways to spend less on our utility bills and use energy more wisely. Solarize Ossining–Briarcliff breaks down barriers, and makes it easier for our residents and small businesses to get solar on their properties.”
—Mayor Victoria Gearity, Village of Ossining

“Briarcliff Manor has been consistently encouraging the expansion of solar energy. Our own buildings and those of many of our residents indicate a determination, now more than ever, to move into this new age opportunity. We believe that the Ossining and Briarcliff Manor coalition will simplify the daunting task of selecting solar contractors as well as ease the time consuming tasks when looking for professional, high quality products and workmanship. While this is a great opportunity for communities to work together, the real benefit will go to our residents and commercial interests.”
—Mayor William J. Vescio, Village of Briarcliff Manor

Ossining-Briarcliff Testimonial—Commercial

We are owners and operators of For Kids Only Child Care Center at 577 North State Rd. in the Town of Ossining. On October 31, 2011, our solar installation was complete and up and running.

The process began months before, when we began researching the use of solar energy at our Center. Several years earlier, when we investigated using solar energy, there were very few incentives to do so, and it would take too long to recoup our investment. In 2011, there were Federal and State rebates offered, making the payback approximately 3 ½ years.

We discovered that because our roof faced North/South, it was uncertain whether we could produce enough energy to qualify for these rebates. After brainstorming with our solar company, in addition to roof panels, we decided to put an awning that would face west. Our project manager suggested that we also install trackers (solar panels are placed on stationary poles with a mechanism allowing them to track the sun as it moves throughout the day; they also change position seasonally).

Bringing solar energy to our child care center served another purpose. We encourage the children in our program to be environmentally aware. We teach them to reduce by turning off water and lights when not using them, reuse through use of recycled materials in our art projects and recycle all plastic and paper. Installing solar panels shows our children that we care about their future.

We have been very pleased with the outcome of this project. On a yearly basis, we are overproducing enough energy to power our center. From December 2013 to December 2014 our meter reversed from 608 to 598 kilowatts.

–Wendy Masserman, owner, For Kids Only Child Care Center, Town of Ossining
